Ecommerce website development: your own store, checkout and admin
Marketplaces and template stores are a good way to start. When you want your own brand, your own customer list and a checkout that works the way you sell, we build the store. Our ecommerce website development covers the storefront, checkout, order emails and an admin you'll actually use, whether you sell made-to-order, by season or ship across the country.
This is what we've built into real stores so far. Your quote lists what yours needs.
Catalog by category, season or collection, with product variants and search
Product pages with clear photos, prices and availability
Cart and checkout through a payment provider, with prices recalculated on the server
Shipping or local pickup, matched to how you fulfill orders
Order emails: confirmation, shipped, and abandoned-cart reminders
Customer accounts with order history and saved addresses
Coupons and gift cards
An admin for products, orders with a status workflow, customers, invoices and sales reports
A real example: Lena's Wreath Decor
Lena's Wreath Decor sells handmade wreaths and ships them across the US. Shoppers browse by season, their cart is saved on their device, and they get a reminder if they leave without checking out. At checkout they can pay by card through Stripe, or with PayPal, Venmo or Zelle.
Behind the store, the admin moves each order through a status workflow and sends the shipped email automatically. It also handles invoice PDFs, custom orders, coupons, gift cards, reviews and a two-way email inbox.
We've also built stores into the Truth In Beauty skincare studio site, with ordering online and pickup at the studio, and the Donna Rodrigues author site, which sells signed copies of her books.
Your own store, or Shopify, Etsy or Square?
Honest answer: a hosted platform is often the right call, especially at the start.
A hosted platform makes sense when
You're still testing whether a product sells
A standard theme and checkout fit your products
You want the platform to handle everything, and the monthly and per-sale fees are fine
Etsy's built-in shoppers matter more to you than your own brand
Your own store makes sense when
You've outgrown the theme and keep paying for apps to patch the gaps
You sell made-to-order, custom or bundled products the platform handles awkwardly
You want your customer list, emails and order data in your own database
You want the store, bookings, blog and admin in one site
You don't have to choose all at once: you can keep an Etsy shop running while your own store grows.
Product pages built to be found
Each product page gets its own title and description, breadcrumbs, and Product and Offer structured data, so search engines can read the price and availability. The store also gets a sitemap and an llms.txt summary for AI assistants, and we can connect a product feed to Google Merchant Center so your products can appear in its free listings. For ongoing work after launch, see our technical SEO services.
Payments and security
Card details go straight to the payment provider. With Stripe, card numbers never touch your site or our servers, and saved cards are stored by Stripe. Every page runs over HTTPS. We recalculate totals on the server at checkout, so nobody can change a price in their browser and pay less.
Yes. You add and edit products, photos, prices and stock from the admin, and you manage orders, customers, coupons and gift cards there too.
Can you move my store from another platform?
Yes. We export products, photos and customers where the old platform allows it, rebuild them in the new store, and redirect old product URLs to their new pages. Order history and saved cards depend on what the old platform lets you export, so we check that first.
Do you set up shipping and sales tax?
We set up the shipping and pickup options your store needs. For sales tax, we connect the calculation your payment provider offers or apply the rates you give us. We're not tax advisors, so confirm what you need to collect with your accountant.
Can the store be bilingual?
Yes. Product pages, checkout and order emails can run in English and Spanish, with each language on its own URLs.
Which payment methods can I accept?
We've built checkouts with cards and saved cards through Stripe, plus PayPal, Venmo and Zelle. Which ones make sense depends on your products and your customers.
